I just wanted to share with you how successful our parliamentary event was on Wednesday. We had a great day in Westminster signing up MP’s to join our campaign for Youth Friendly Communities.
At the event we were joined by MP’s, Lords, Employers, Charities, Partners and a number of our fantastic Youth Ambassadors. Shakira Martin one of our ambassadors chaired the event and represented the views of our young members incredibly well; “don’t be an odour be a fragrance” was the one lesson we all learned from Shakira!
It was readily acknowledged that to make a sustainable difference to youth unemployment, economic development and the skills gap we need to see more employers supporting young people at a local level. The Youth Friendly badge encourages this in a way that can engage organisations of any size. Our event secured the support of the APPG for Youth Unemployment and we hope to share further reports with you as we progress this relationship.
This was just the beginning as YEUK will continue to lobby MP’s and show how we can work with them at a local level to make their constituencies Youth Friendly. As the success of this campaign grows our partners, members and supporters will be ever more important.
Our next big event will be the Youth Friendly Awards in November any organisation of any size can enter (as long as they are Youth Friendly badge holders) and showcase their good practice. Thank you to e Squared and Apprenticeships 4 England for sponsoring two of the awards!
