Youth Peer Researcher with Clarion Housing Group: London – #CreateYourFuture

Looking for opportunities where you will make a big difference? Explore this young researcher role from Clarion Housing Group and apply!

We’re looking for a young Londoner, aged 18-25, to be trained as a peer researcher and to co-create and carry out a research project aiming to understand young people’s different experiences with housing and how to create an embedded youth voice in a housing association.

Role as Young Researcher

Team: together with another young researcher, you will be working with staff from Partnership for Young London and Clarion to co-produce this project.

Research: this project aims to produce a short survey reaching about 100 tenants, carry out focus groups and/or interviews with young residents as well as with practitioners in either housing or youth work.

Training: four training sessions are set up to design, execute and analyse the research project and data. You will get training in doing peer research, learning about qualitative and quantitative research methods and how to analyse data.

Your project: Be a co-author of the research project and report through working together as a team with young researchers and Partnership for Young London to:

  • design the research questions
  • design research methods
  • reaching out and establishing relations to do focus groups and interviews
  • carry out focus groups and/or interviews
  • analyse quantitative and qualitative data
  • present findings with key stakeholders across London

Project Details

The initiation of this project came from the idea that young residents, who are not necessarily direct tenants, might be unfamiliar with the support networks or community outreach systems that a housing association could provide. At the same time, housing associations would like to improve upon their limited understanding of what needs young residents have or what barriers and complications they are currently facing. This project aims to gain a better understanding of unheard voices of young people in Clarion residences and how to develop a youth voice structure to empower those young people who are currently not empowered to take leadership in their local community.

Timeline

The project will take place from December 2022 – May 2023, attending training sessions, meetings and focus groups and potentially some desk-based activities accounting for 60 hours x £11.95 (London Living Wage), meaning about 10-15 hours per month, varying in different stages of the project.

Entry Requirements

Looking for someone who is:

  • Clarion resident
  • London based
  • 18-25 years old
  • Able to attend in person meetings, training sessions and planned activities for this project
  • Able to work independently as well as to work in a team and take initiative in co-producing this work

How to apply

Interested? Send your CV and short motivation (maximum 1 page) to Anna Byakika (anna.byakika@clarionhg.com) addressing these questions:

  • What interests you about the research?
  • What do you hope to gain in terms of skills and experience?
  • What difference do you hope to make?

Any other questions? Please contact Iris Bos (iris.bos@cityoflondon.gov.uk)

Deadline: 23 November 2022
