OneAIM: Contributing to the local community of West Cumbria
Please join us in celebrating the success of Youth Friendly Employer OneAIM, who work hard to provide careers and opportunities for young people and local communities in West Cumbria.
Any young people in the area seeking rewarding employment can take heart in the knowledge that OneAIM are making genuine efforts to make a difference.
How are One AIM giving back to the West Cumbrian community?
Primary Business Partnership
When you think about it, the Primary Business Partnership is an amazing venture. Set up and funded by OneAIM, it’s an expertly run ‘matchmaking’ service between primary schools and businesses in the Allerdale and Copeland area. It’s fully funded, so there’s no need for any primary schools or businesses involved to pay a penny!
All the local schemes set up by OneAIM and their Primary Business Partnership have created all kinds of employer-led weird and wonderful events and experiences for primary schools, from Kaifer’s AnimalME personality test which helps primary schoolchildren recognise and respect different personalities to Eco-STEM workshops showing how technology and the environment can work in harmony.

Cracked It
Cracked It is another fresh idea from OneAIM. It’s a scheme that combines safety at the Sellafield nuclear power plant with helping charity out in a big, big way.
For every 28 days of high safety performance at the power plant, OneAIM donates £1,000 to a chosen charity. So far they have donated £10,000 to West Cumbrian charities and local community organisations.
This idea is so simple and brilliant. It means that safety at the power plant is valued – not only for national and personal reasons, but because everyone loves to know that they are giving something back to those who need it most. Local young people and professionals working at Sellafield know that their hard efforts are rewarding some amazing local charities!

OneAim Careers – supporting young people with careers in business and nuclear construction
As the team delivering the Operation Site Works (OSW) Framework at Sellafield Site, everyone at OneAIM thinks big when it comes to keeping the UK fuelled up and ready to go. They have inspiring apprenticeships and graduate roles, whatever your interests and background. They have also got no time for old myths about the world of nuclear construction.
World-class work experience in action
OneAIM’s work experience programme is designed to help students taking part get a real understanding of all the business areas involved. OneAIM works closely with the school (or other provider) to look at the students’ study programme and ensure their work experience gives hands-on experience to help along their theory based learning. Young staff help to deliver some of the programme – because it’s always reassuring for students to see young friendly faces in a work environment – and young staff even help with mentoring work experience particpants, too. Along with some fantastic work experience aftercare (like feedback and work experience references), OneAIM prove they care about local young people at all stages of their career journey – including when they’re still in education.
Employers who want to find out more about best practice in work experience can join Youth Employment UK as a Youth Friendly Employer. Benefits include a Youth Friendly Employer mark, custom expert support on request, and access to a wide range of resources to aid their youth employment practice.
Celebrating diversity
Safety matters, and diversity matters too – OneAIM know how important it is to welcome and celebrate young women and young BAME people in the world of construction, which is why their team is so diverse. You don’t have to do outside work or get your hands dirty, and there’s loads of room to grow your salary and career too!
