Personal statement

After recently finishing a 2 year fashion business and retail course, I would like to increase my skills around digital media.  This was the aspect I most enjoyed within the course and I feel that I have a natural flair for this.

With regards to practical work experience, I was a hospitality worker for both Liverpool and Everton Football clubs and also worked in a childrens fashion store which I really enjoyed. This experience has given me the confidence to work within a team, deal with the public and provide excellent customer service.

Personal Interests

I enjoy creating content for my friends’ small businesses. I create content such as logos, highlight covers for Instagram, mood. boards and price lists/info.

An example of using Self Belief Skills in work or study

During my final months in college, I went through a particularly hard time in my personal life. I was tempted to drop out of college and was ready to sign a resignation. However, after much help and support from my family and tutors, I decided to push through and complete the year. I tried my absolute hardest and pleased my tutors with the final outcome. It was rewarding to see my change of mind set and that I was able to complete the course on time.

An example of using Communication Skills in work or study

Whilst working in retail, it was part of my job to communicate with regular customers on a daily basis. Our loyal and returning customers were always updated about new stock arrival and upcoming sales via phone and direct message on Instagram. The customers were always appreciative of this and often commented to my employer on how well I communicate.

Whilst at college, we often did group presentations that consisted of 3-5 people and it was our task to present to the class a 10-15 minute presentation of our group work. We’d be given a time frame to complete the work. Each member of the group would take on 2-3 pieces of work and we’d work together to make sure everything flowed. Each person had their opportunity to talk their work through to the class so that it was fair each person had the opportunity to gain confidence in speaking to an audience. The groups would always be supportive and would work co-operatives

An example of using Problem Solving Skills in work or study

Whilst working at Liverpool Football Club, I was often faced with difficult customers. I once had to deal with a group of men under the influence of alcohol who had been given the wrong order by a new member of staff. I made my bar manager aware of the situation and herself and I approached the men in a calm manner and apologised for the mistake. This was difficult as they became quite aggressive but we remained calm and explained we would prioritise their order and have it brought to their seats so that the did not have to queue again. I quickly and carefully re-made their order and delivered it to their seats. In the end, they were pleased with their customer service and even notified our stand manager of the situation, which we were then  congratulated on, the following week.

When working in retail, I was in charge of the shop when my employer was not available. I was often on my own and single handedly operated the shop day to day. I would open and close the shop on my own, handle money and count the till at the end of each day. I would process all sales, post on social media platforms and handle customer enquiries over the phone, via email and direct messages.

I believe I work well under pressure, managing the shop on my own gave me excellent experience in self motivation and applying a ‘can-do’ attitude despite the job being stressful at times.
