Want to get your voice heard and make a difference? Apply for a position on the City & Guilds Young Learner Advisory Council! Applications are open until 24th March.
About the role
City & Guilds is an organisation that supports skills development across a range of employment sectors.
We want to hear what learners think and are searching for a team of six current, or recently qualified vocational learners to join City & Guilds’ Young Learner Advisory Team. The newly formed Young Learner Advisory Team will become an extension of our Board of Trustees, with a key role of embedding experience and perspectives to enable a strong sense of the learner voice being at the heart of all key decision making.
As the governing body of The City and Guilds London Institute, our Trustee Board is ultimately responsible for everything City & Guilds does. Our Trustee Board works collectively with the organisations CEO and the executive team to govern the organisation and take decisions that will help us grow and achieve our ambitious goals.
We need bright and enthusiastic individuals who think that they can help us raise issues, challenge opinions and give insight on key elements of City & Guilds’ strategic corporate decisions which impact the way we deliver and develop our products and services.
What we offer
We offer the opportunity to work with an innovative, engaging and market-leading organisation. Being a member of the Young Learner Advisory Team is a great opportunity for personal development to build on your existing skills and experience, whilst also making a real difference for future learners who use City & Guilds products and services. We also expect that members of the Young Learner Advisory Team who are on apprenticeship programmes will be able to use a lot of their learning towards their 20% off the job training. For those not completing an apprenticeship, this opportunity will form part of their practical work experience requirement – which can be agreed with their employer/training provider.
We will provide:
- Formal learning pathway with training to ensure you are clear and confident in the role
- A designated mentor from either our Executive Leadership Team or our Board of Trustees for the duration of the term
- A set payment that will cover time, food, travel and accommodation expenses where required
- £500 to spend on formal learning and development courses
- Exposure to governance of a charity committed to delivering impact and operating as a socially and environmentally responsible business
- Access to industry events to broaden your network
- Autonomy to influence one of the leading global skills organisations at the highest levels
About you
Our ideal candidate will be a current or recently qualified vocational learner (max 6 months post completion) who has a passion or interest in personal development and learning. We are looking for young learners from a variety of industries, levels and from across the UK.
You don’t need any prior experience of working with Trustees, but if you are an enthusiastic individual and think you have some of the below skills, this could be a great opportunity for you:
- A current or recently qualified vocational learner (max 6 months post completion)
- Excellent interpersonal skills and enjoys working within a team
- Ability to communicate with senior stakeholders
- Confidence to challenge constructively
- An inclusive mindset
- A changemaker, passionate about influencing change
- Committed to sharing views from lived experience and views of peers
- Ability to work with integrity when dealing with sensitive information
We believe that diversity and inclusion strengthen and enriches us, and that it is the responsibility of everyone at City & Guilds to drive this value. As ethnic minority groups and disabled people are currently under-represented within our organisation, we particularly encourage and welcome applications from these communities.
