Nikhil Sadheura is a Partnership Support Officer at the London Borough of Redbridge. Here’s his experience of working in local government!
I have joined Redbridge as a Partnership Support Officer in Policy, Equalities and Communities. I can say with absolute certainty that everyone I have met since joining has been extremely welcoming. No matter how senior they may be, they have all made me feel very comfortable and treated me as an equal. My team has been very supportive, providing any assistance or guidance I have needed.
A typical day for me would be working on a host of different tasks, supporting the team and my own projects. My day usually includes meetings with likeminded colleagues, all passionate about their work. I have worked on a wide range of projects including anti-poverty strategy, financial inclusion, the Household Support Fund, climate change, elections and many more. Being involved in projects that make a positive difference to the wider community has given me great satisfaction because it is clear that my work is important and worthwhile.
I would advise anyone who is looking to enter Local Government to be open minded and be able to work well within teams.
I have enjoyed my time in Redbridge so far and look forward to what the future holds!
