What did you enjoy most about your Degree Apprenticeship in Town Planning?
I have enjoyed the varied nature of topics and learning aspects that have come with the degree apprenticeship, and being able to apply what I’ve learnt into my role at BDC. It feels good to be able to take full advantage of the learning.
How hard was it transitioning from apprentice to full time employee?
Since I transitioned from a Business Admin apprentice to a Degree apprentice, it has come with its own challenges such as transitioning back into academic learning and writing, which is also at a much higher level when studying a degree apprenticeship
How did your apprenticeship act as a springboard for what came next?
My first apprenticeship opened up the door for the degree apprenticeship which I moved on to, which I hope will in turn, provide a further springboard for a full time job upon completion of the degree. Completing any apprenticeship alongside a job, not only opens up doors but gives added value to you CV and experience in the workplace.
What in your opinion is the most widely misunderstood thing about apprenticeships?
That they are only to start your career or for young people. I have met people from all ages and walks of life during my apprenticeships and it proves that you can have a successful career and then want to supplement it by completing an apprenticeship without having to give up work time to study like you would have to if you were to go back to college or a university.
Why would you recommend an apprenticeship to someone looking to start a career?
It eases people into the working environment whilst still allowing them to gain valuable qualifications, you essentially get a head start on anyone that doesn’t do an apprenticeship with their chosen career.
What advice would you give to anyone starting out as an apprentice?
Always make sure you get the most out of the learning, and look for ways to apply it in the workplace, as this will get the most out of the apprenticeship.
