What is your role and what do you do in your day to day role?
My role is project and recruitment coordinator, it’s a mixed bag of a role and enables me to get involved with lots of different parts of the contract! I am a point of help for the project manager to assist on new projects, help run parts of projects and do all the fun admin involved, as well as being a help for the administration side of day-to-day operations on site! I liaise with the recruitment team to help fill the vacancies we have on site and try boost exposure for the cooperate contract.
What kind of training have you had and what did you learn?
I am currently doing my own apprenticeship with Sodexo, I am doing a level 4 project management apprenticeship. This has given me the chance to learn a lot more about how projects work, how to manage them and really apply that knowledge in my day to day job, I have had immense amounts of support from managers across all segments to ensure I get the correct exposure to all different elements that are involved in the wonderful world of project management.
Have you gained more responsibilities and experience since you started your role? How has it changed?
Due to the nature of my role it’s honestly constantly changing! I have really great managers that allow me to have a level of exposure to a range of different services which massively has increased my knowledge of the contract and what we do and most importantly why we do it. I started out with the focus on recruitment as this was the need at the time. Since being on the contract for over 18 months now I have progressed massively in the project space and have learned a lot about the operational side of cooperate services and all that in entails.
What skills and knowledge have you gained that will help you throughout your career?
I have learnt so much from some really knowledgeable colleagues, we are so lucky on this contract to have the knowledge pool that we do and being exposed to this everyday has given me so much confidence in what I do and where I am going within the contact, as well as Sodexo as a whole. I came into the contract with little knowledge on the processes and how and why we do things, now I feel confident (even though I still learn something new daily) in doing my work and expanding my knowledge base. Being a part of such an impressive contract has really helped me in my career and I’m excited to see where it’ll take me!
Where do you see yourself progressing to? How has this role helped you towards this goal?
I would like to eventually move into the project space and focus on project management fully once I have gained my apprenticeship qualification as I am really enjoying working in this space. This role has massively helped, it has given me the ability to learn lots, gain new skills and perspectives and meet some great people. I am very grateful for the opportunities I have been provided.
How have you been supported by Sodexo in your role?
I have massively been supported through the role, being new and as I mentioned earlier having no prior knowledge everyone has helped from the frontline teams, Sodexo HR department and the various mangers I have worked with have been absolutely crucial to my learning and development. I am so grateful to my managers, in particular Liezel Bezuidenhout and Jessica Hamill, for the opportunities and support they have given me. I always feel incredibly supported in my role and pushed to do my best. I value the feedback and support I receive in the areas I have struggled with but I am very glad to have found this position and look forward to continuing my career path with Sodexo.
