What will you be doing?
In their daily work, an employee in this occupation interacts with customers, delivery personnel, design office, internal stores.
Wood product manufacturing operatives typically work individually but can also form part of a larger production team and will report to the production supervisor/manager.
Tasks include:
- Read and interpret specifications, diagrams and work instructions, and following these instructions
- How to use and gain competency in a range of machinery to perform the task/operation required including static machinery, portable powered tools and hand tools
- Prepare and operate Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) equipment
- Adhere to quality standards and product accreditation processes for wood product manufacture
- Maintain machinery and log faults for repair including greasing
- Build tooling and set various wood working machinery including moulders, bandsaws, presses, double end tenoner and other specialist finishing machinery
- Techniques for applying specified finishes to components and products
- Install fixtures and fittings to wood products, for example magnetic and acoustic components on specific patented products
- Maintain a good level of cleanliness in working areas
The apprenticeship is with Woodland Floors, who manufacture engineered and solid wood flooring on an order-by-order basis for retailers, installers and developers, allowing our customers to secure competitive tailored flooring products.
What training will you take and what qualification will you get at the end?
Training will be provided to achieve the following qualifications:
- Level 2 Wood Product Manufacturing Operative Apprenticeship Standard
- Functional Skills in maths and English (as required)
You could even progress to a Level 3 Team Leader Apprenticeship and/or Full-time employment upon completion of apprenticeship.

Details
Annual wage: £10,982.40
Monday – Thursday, 8.00am – 5.00pm and Friday, 8.00am – 2.30pm., Total hours per week: 40.0
Expected duration: 26 Months
Possible start date: 04 Sep 2023
Apprenticeship level: Intermediate, Level 2 (GCSE equivalent)
