If you are a University Student or recently applied to go to university you will know the sweat and tears it takes to bring together those 4000 characters. That YOU choose to make YOU stand out from the other students. But what next, will it stay saved in your documents folder? Be keep till you forget how hard it was bringing it together, stop caring and delete it? Or could it be the beginning of your CV!
We think so… Here’s why!
After you submitted before 14 of January, which is the national deadline for those who aren’t submitting to ox-bridge, in which case submission is in October!
It was read by….
Course leaders and also admissions tutors. What with the increase on university applications (4% in 2014) Some courses faced 1000 applicants to 30 positions. So if the statement you brought together got you into university, it has the foundation to be developed into your CV,
And if you have applied for different courses you will have had a go at mixing things up a little…
If you applied to two different courses, this is a great example of applying for different jobs you would like to do and if they are similar in some way this may not be so hard. However if you were applying for two completely different courses then you would have need to be careful and make two differnt applications this is the same as your CV, jobs if they aren’t similar over generlising will be too vague. And just like you researched your university – you will need to researched the company you are applying to. This adds value to the so tell employer just like you told the university what you know about them and why they are your number one choice.
Remember your CV is just like your personal statement you need to keep it simple there’s a lot riding, so it isn’t the time to get creative!
Make sure what you write is relevant. Think about the reader, employers, tutors alike are about to invest in you, they will want someone who is passionate, determined to succeed. With this in mind… always get a critical friend – careers adviser, teacher or parent – Just like you would have done for your personal statement to look over your CV. Ask them to imagine being the employer and whether it would get you through to an interview.
Take everything you learn’t whilst writing your personal statement and expand it with what you now know because…
“It’s your time to shine, use it wisely….”
Where would you like to go now
