Traineeships: a lifeline of support for young people who want to work

PRESS RELEASE

For many young people in Gloucester, a traineeship program from Prospect Training Services (PTS) has been the key to opening doors which were previously written off as locked and out of bounds. A tailor-made programme of support for those aged 16-24 who want to work, but need that extra bit of help to gain an apprenticeship or a job, traineeships give young people the opportunity to develop their skills and gain essential workplace experience. These are the things employers look for, not just as they recruit, but for as they consider their employee’s long-term development. Traineeships provide you with the building blocks for your life and career, not just a job to get by.
Before getting in touch with PTS, William was, in his in words, “doing nothing.” Signing on and receiving benefits, William wanted more for himself and gave us a call. “The support was great,” he shared. “The staff at Prospect were lovely, and helped me get to where I am today.”
PTS helped William with the maths and English qualifications he required, and assisted him in securing a valuable work placement at the British Card Company where he learnt what it means to work in a team and professional setting. “I enjoyed meeting the staff and learning new skills to develop my career in admin, and coming through PTS helped me bring my confidence up,” William commented. “I’m very grateful for what PTS have done for me. Before this, I had no confidence at all, and no job at my lowest point.”
William’s hard work certainly paid off, today working at the Jobcentre in a Business Admin role. To others like him who are not sure what to do next, or require some extra support to get to where they want to be, William has some helpful advice. “PTS can help you achieve the right grades to get the jobs that suit you. I’m just so grateful for every single staff member at PTS for getting me back into work.” And thanks to the traineeship programme, William’s employer now have a thriving member of staff too, who can continue develop and grow with them.
