Employers to highlight challenges and barriers to supporting young people in to employment.
Employment is a two-way agreement and as part of OpportUNITY, we want to recognise that young people have certain needs, as do employers. The aim of the roles below is to highlight needs of businesses and expectations employers have when supporting young people in to secure employment.
Role 1: Video
Who: Employers (x3) for approximately 3minutes each.
Role description: We would like to collect short interviews, to be collated in to a video, of employers discussing the skills and attitudes they expect young people to be equipped with when entering work. Examples of things which to discuss may include:
- What challenges do you face when employing young people?
- What skills, attitudes and knowledge do you look for when employing young people, and are there are any specifically for your industry?
- Do you feel there are any particular gaps (skills, knowledge, attitudes) that young people need more support in developing?
- Do you feel there are any skills young people undersell on their CVs or application forms?
Role 2: Presentation
Who: Employer (x2) 5min per presentation.
Role description: We are looking for employers to present their experiences of employing young people, and what challenges or barriers they face in recruiting and supporting young people in to employment. Ideas for discussion may include:
- Barriers and challenges your organisation faces when supporting young people in to employment.
- Apprenticeship and Traineeship gaps
- Expectations of young people entering the work and any current gaps
- Examples of in-work support and ensuring sustained employment of young people
