Digital Design and Development T Level
Shechinah Ashmead, La Retraite Catholic School for Girls
Shechinah studied the Digital Design and Development T Level at La Retraite Catholic School for Girls in Clapham, keen to become a role model for other black women and break the stigma of IT being a male-dominated profession.
As part of her course, she completed a placement in the Department of Transport where she learnt about Google analytics, IT programming, service security and key business skills and has now secured an offer to study Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking at Coventry University.
Shechinah said: “I didn’t start with an IT background, but doing it now has been eye-opening and I feel like I am performing to the best of my ability learning these new skills”
“It’s opened so many doors and opportunities that I thought I’d never have and I am proud of myself, so it is good to be your own hero”
Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction T Level
Kinnari Khodiara, Loughborough College
Kinnari took a T Level course in Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction at Loughborough College in Leicestershire. After an industry placement with Sandicliffe, a mechanic in Leicester, she has been offered a three-year apprenticeship with the firm, which will enable her to develop her skills whilst doing paid work.
Kinnari said: “T levels are a great way to learn and get hands on with a job unlike a normal course where you are sat at a desk and looking through books.
“I would definitely recommend T levels as you gain an understanding of what needs to be done in the industry you’re about to work in and how a real business works day to day.”

Education and Childcare T Level
Romilly Horner, City College Norwich
Romilly Horner, aged 18 from Norwich, studied a T Level in Education and Childcare. Inspired by her mum who is a teacher, Romilly decided to pursue a career in education and childcare, a sector she has been passionate about from a young age.
As part of her T Level, Romilly completed her industry placement at City Primary School in Norwich. Romilly discovered her passion for teaching on placement and is delighted to have secured a full-time role as a Teaching Assistant starting this September at the school.
Romilly said: “The course is really well designed, it is broadly equivalent in size to 3 A levels and combines a mix of learning and on-the-job training – which really helped boost my confidence in the classroom. Being a teacher can shape lives. I think it’s amazing to play a role in this and provide young learners with skills they will use for the rest of their lives, from telling the time to basic maths and counting.”
