Supporting Neurodivergent Employees in the Workplace: City and Guilds

New research from City and Guilds has found that employers are currently failing to support neurodivergent employees, and there is currently a lack of training available and awareness in most workplaces

The research aims to establish how well the workplace currently understands and embraces neurodiversity. This was achieved through gathering data from one thousand employees and employers working in the UK and globally. 

Key Findings

  • 29% of senior leaders have had any specific training relating to neurodiversity in the last 12 months
  • 23% of HR respondents have had training related to neurodiversity in the last 12 months
  • 53% of employers have not adapted recruitment processes to accommodate candidates with neurodivergent traits 
  • 37% of employers said their website has accessibility features
  • 24% of respondents said the biggest challenge with applying for a job was with face to-face interviews and completing job applications
  • 32% of neurodivergent respondents haven’t disclosed their condition in the workplace
  • 10% of neurodivergent respondents were met with a poor response when they disclosed their condition
