We are looking for people aged 16+ to work in our Short Breaks Service for children and teenagers with special needs or disabilities. No experience is needed as we’ll offer you full free training and an induction.

Purpose of the Job

To offer disabled young people aged 14 to 18 a flexible, tailor-made service, giving them the opportunity to get out and about in the community. Buddies will encourage independence and streetwise skills. This could be anytime outside school hours and would be for a minimum of 4 – 6 hours a month.

Main Responsibilities of the Job

  • To work closely with young people and their families to plan outings and experiences resulting in positive outcomes.
  • To be aware of and implement safeguarding procedures on a day to day basis to ensure adherence with best practice.
  • To take responsibility for day to day adherence to Bromley Mencap’s policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • To maintain confidentiality and respect the dignity and privacy of young people and their families.
  • To work flexibly, to be on time and to engage in a variety of activities,
  • To make a positive contribution to the development of children and young people and the service.
  • To work and communicate professionally, providing positive role models.
  • To communicate clearly, concisely and honestly about the support that is being provided to young people using agreed forms of communication.
  • To get to know the young people and how they and their families want them to be supported to deliver appropriate outcomes.
  • To participate in relevant training.

Training and Support

  • You will receive an induction to Bromley Mencap and to your job
  • You will have a line manager and receive regular supervision
  • You will be provided with training to enable you to do your job effectively
