Self belief has a lot to do with confidence. The confidence you have in yourself, your skills and in taking on new tasks and experiences. Self belief is something that you have to build in layers, like a cake! You need motivation, resilience and positive attitude to really have a cherry on top of the cake of self belief.
You might have noticed already, but each week we are setting small challenges related to our Young Professional Membership. You’ll have shown off some of your skills already in our quiz but this week we want to shine a spotlight on motivation.
Motivation is that little spark inside of you that keeps you going. You can be really motivated to get to a certain end point, that might be doing really well in school or college, getting a new job, starting your own business or becoming a millionaire. To get to the big end point it takes a lot of individual days of being motivated to get through your to do lists, assignments or new business plans.
It can seem a little easier to remain motivated to complete the tasks you enjoy but it is is really important that you can motivate yourself to complete all sorts of tasks too. Throughout study and work there will be lots of activities to complete and you won’t always find all of them as exciting as your favourite parts of your job.
Employers are looking for people that can remain motivated to do all parts of their job and who are motivated to do their job well. There are plenty of perks and opportunities that come from working hard in school and work but plenty of days will be your ‘average’ days at work.
Motivation isn’t just about work and study though, it is about having that spark to achieve what you really want to, that might be discovering a new hobby, volunteering, finishing your favourite book or getting to work on time. Achieving what you really want and being motivated to get there, now that’s the icing on the cake!
The Challenge
This weeks challenge is a little different, there aren’t necessarily right or wrong answers. We want you to consider what might motivate you:
So now we have looked at what motivate you it is worth considering what this means, if you are motivated by working in a team or by showing off the skills you are good at what other tools can you use to keep motivated when you are working on your own on a project. Take a look at some of these top tips on what a motivated person would do below.
A motivated person:
- Assesses the whole task, break down the detail
- Sets goals, breaking them down into manageable tasks if needed
- Has checkpoints to measure their progress
- Rewards themselves when things go well
- Has a plan but is flexible to change course if it is required
- Comes up with some treats or ideas for when motivation might dip
