80% of your time will be spent in the workplace, and 20% of your time will be spent off the job, completing a training programme specially designed for your apprenticeship with a recognised training provider. This learning may be delivered via in person workshops, in the workplace or by online delivery.
You will learn from experienced colleagues who will support you to gradually take on the following responsibilities through the duration of your apprenticeship.
During this apprenticeship, you will be:
- Assisting in the writing of media releases about Historic England`s work including stories about new listings, grant funding and archaeological discoveries
- Producing summaries of daily media coverage about Historic England
- Supporting the management of media enquiries about Historic England from national, regional and specialist media
- Assisting with analysis/evaluation of media coverage
- Pitching stories to national and specialist media
- Creating image galleries and writing captions
- Engaging with colleagues, teams and departments across Historic England to research stories.
What will you learn?
In training you will learn the background knowledge that will help you to understand the bigger picture of work, including:
- How the heritage sector works: The people, organisations, policy and legislation that make up this fascinating area of work.
- The day-to-day running of a busy press office including how to manage media enquiries and produce summaries of media coverage.
- How to organise your time effectively, juggle priorities and meet tight deadlines
- How to engage with and build relationships with a range of colleagues and journalists
- What makes an interesting story, how to write a compelling copy and attract media interest in Historic England`s work.
Training & qualifications
Apprentices must achieve level 2 English and Maths prior to taking their end-point assessment.
Experience, knowledge & skills
- Well-organised with excellent attention to detail
- Great team worker with the ability to get along easily with others
- Experience of using Microsoft Office
- Good written communication skills
- Be curious and have a desire to continuously learn.
- Passion and interest in history, heritage and the historic environment
