Learning Programme Trainee with the Royal Parks: London – #CreateYourFuture

Looking for environmental roles? Explore this trainee placement programme from the Royal Parks and apply!

The Royal Parks working with Groundwork’s New to Nature programme is offering a Learning Programme Trainee placement for one year.

New to Nature is an exciting programme of paid work placements in nature-focused roles. This is one of 70 roles that will be created across the UK to encourage young and diverse talent into the Natural Environment sector.

As the Learning Programme Trainee, you will work in collaboration with other members of the Learning Team, developing skills and an understanding of the planning and creative development that goes into running exciting outdoor learning programmes across the central Royal Parks, based from The LookOut Discovery Centre in Hyde Park, for audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

You’ll get paid a good wage from a placement that helps the environment, learn loads of skills to boost your CV and get access to a Youth Employment Coach to help you plan your future career.

There’ll also be opportunities to learn about potential careers in the natural environment, and (should you wish to) connect with the other young people working in New to Nature roles across the country.

What you’ll do

As the Learning Programme Trainee, you will work in collaboration with other members of the Learning Team, developing an understanding of the planning and creative development that goes into our events, and the skills needed to deliver them.

In the first half of the year, you will develop core skills such as communication, customer service, organisational and problem-solving skills. You will shadow and co-deliver existing sessions and will start to think about opportunities to improve existing programming and consider new experiences in line with our Learning Strategy goals.

In the second half of the year, you will have the opportunity to specialise and focus on skills that will support the next steps that you want to take. This could involve developing new activities from scratch; leading school groups independently; or building relationships with local community groups to tackle barriers to accessing the parks.

You will work alongside our wider colleagues and trained volunteers, and benefit from an insight into the charity environment and heritage sectors. You will also gain exposure to other functions across the parks from biodiversity and nature conservation, to communications, interpretation, fundraising, and more traditional office roles.

This role provides an exciting opportunity for someone who is interested in a career in education, engagement or working outdoors, and who is enthusiastic to learn about and share these amazing spaces with our audiences.

We hope you will join us on this exciting journey!
