Hi I’m Emily Burridge, the concrete technical supervisor and currently an apprentice as a part of Hanson UK‘s Learning, Education and Development Programme, which we commonly refer to as the LEAD Programme.
I started 11 months ago and I’m thoroughly enjoying every opportunity it throws at me.
What have you learnt from the LEAD programme?
I am studying a degree at the University of Derby and it covers all aspects of the business including concrete, asphalt and aggregates. I am learning through everything I am studying as part of the programme.
What made you decide to join the LEAD Programme?
When you come out of A-Levels, you have a lot of choices to make on your next steps, and I know a lot of people who chose University as their next steps. I was certainly pushed that way too.
I chose to step back and look at all of the options available to me. Hanson had a brilliant opportunity for me with the LEAD programme.
What gravitated me toward the programme is that it offered me a way of learning that was unlike any other I had ever seen.
Would you recommend the LEAD programme?
The benefits of joining Hanson’s LEAD programme are that they offer a competitive wage alongside a company that is willing to support you through your education and development.
They’ve been very helpful with getting my degree and will continue to support me in my career goal of going into management, which is what I’ve always aimed to do.
