What Does This Mean For Youth Employment?
In work:
- The employment rate rose to 55%, up 0.6% on the previous quarter .
- 44,990 more young people are in work with the total number now standing at 3,752,009.
Unemployment:
- The unemployment rate rose to 10.8% up 0.2% on the last quarter.
- The number of unemployed young people rose by 17,171 to 454,854.
Economically inactive
- The economic inactivity rate is 38.3% down 0.9% on the quarter
- The number of young people who are economically inactive has fallen by 60,835.
Headlines for all ages
In work
The employment rate for 16-64 year olds is 75.6%, an increase of 0.2ppts on the previous quarter but remains 1.1ppts lower than before the pandemic.
Employment rose by 74,744 in the previous quarter and stands at 32,706,846 for all ages.
Unemployment
The unemployment rate for all ages is 3.8%, down 0.2 ppts on the previous quarter and down 0.1 ppts below pre-coronavirus pandemic levels. Unemployment fell by 40,909 on the previous quarter.
Economically inactive
The economic inactivity rate for 16-64 year olds stands at 21.3%, down 0.1 ppts on the previous quarter.
The number of those classed as economically inactive was down by 47,546 among 16-64 year olds.
