Headlines for Young People Aged 16-24

The ONS has released the latest Labour Market Overview covering the months of December 2024 – February 2025. 

  • Increased employment: There are 3,774,000 young people in employment, compared to 3,657,000 this time last year, representing an increase of 117,000.
  • Increased unemployment: There are 643,000 young people who are unemployed, compared to 538,000 this time last year, representing an increase of 105,000.
  • Decreased economic inactivity: There are 2,971,000 young people who are economically inactive, compared to 3,063,000 this time last year, representing a decrease of 92,000.
  • Decreased vacancies: There are 781,000 vacancies, a decrease of 138,000 vacancies from this time last year.
