Youth Friendly Employer Historic England is offering a virtual work experience programme for young people. Help your students get involved!
Historic England offers a virtual work experience programme for young people twice a year, usually in the February half term and over the summer.
The programme is designed to provide an insight into the wonderful careers that are available within the heritage industry.
The 3 day programme includes live content, talks from guest speakers and the opportunity to contribute towards the work of Historic England. All participants receive a certificate for their work experience at the end of the programme.
Previous events included discussions about heritage sites, the National Heritage List for England (NHLE), managing change in the historic environment, community engagement and cultural programmes and exploring early careers and skills that can be built in heritage. Discussions were supported by expert talks, case studies and group activities.
Who is the virtual work experience for?
The virtual work experience programme is open to 16 – 18 years olds and takes place online.
It includes lots of breaks and opportunities for participants to interact in different ways.
Adjustments can be made for participants so that anyone can participate equally. This includes technical support such as closed captioning and mouse-less navigation, and resources that can be in large print, audio, braille, or accessible pdf formats.
How can young people apply?
Historic England is able to accommodate up to 50 people for each programme. Tickets are free and can be booked through Eventbrite but it is first come first served!
Tickets are usually released 6 – 8 weeks before the event for sign up.
