On the 8th of April the House of Lords published their report on Social Mobility. Youth Employment UK was delighted to provide evidence to the inquiry. Our Young Members contributed their stories and experience towards this report.
The report criticises the government by arguing that it is not providing academic or training solutions for all young people and that too many are failed by the current system.
53% of young people do not follow the ‘traditional’ academic route into work. This majority of young people are significantly overlooked in their transition for work by the education system and the focus on apprenticeships is not suitable for everyone, the House of Lords Select Committee on Social Mobility has found.
