About the opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to gain a recognised accountancy qualification in a supportive environment, working for an organisation which looks after England`s unique historic environment.

As part of our Finance team, the Finance Apprentices will help to deliver finance and procurement services for Historic England. These roles would suit someone who is looking to begin a career in finance and is eager to gain a rounded and comprehensive understanding of the function of a Finance Team.

The Finance Apprentice roles are offered on a 15 month Fixed Term Contract, and will be based in the Swindon office. The roles may suit online and remote working / learning but will require visiting the office to work with the team at least two days a week.

What will you be doing?

You will be working towards completion of your Finance Assistant AAT Level 2, a well-recognised professional qualification.
80% of your time will be spent in the workplace, and 20% of your time will be spent off the job, completing a training programme specially designed for your apprenticeship with a recognised training provider.

You will complete a range of professional skills courses that will support your overall career development. You will be supervised by a line manager and supported by variety of staff including your wider team, a personal learning mentor and our early careers team.

You will also be encouraged to have regular contact with other apprentices to share your experiences and support each other through networking events throughout your apprenticeship.

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Accounts payable processing (enter supplier invoices, invoice matching, handling queries, supplier reconciliations etc)
  2. Accounts Receivable (create customer invoices, chase aged debtors, process cash receipts, deal with customer queries, reconciliations).
  3. Expense processing (review expense claims to ensure compliance with rules, payment of staff expenses, handling queries)
  4. Procurement advice (understanding purchase requirements, setting up suppliers, assisting with set up and appraisal of tenders, reporting on expenditure)

Requirements

  • Level 2 English and Maths will need to be achieved, if not already, prior to taking the end point assessment.
  • The ability to demonstrate a high level of verbal and numerical reasoning.
  • Confident, well-mannered and articulate when communicating verbally or in writing with a range of people.
  • Confidence to explore issues with users to ensure all facts are established, and report back coherently to colleagues.
  • Demonstrates good attention to detail.
  • Willingness and enthusiasm to take ownership of your own work
