Apprentice field technician Jose tells you in his own words what you can expect from engineering apprenticeships with Youth Friendly Employer Coca-Cola Europacific Partners GB. Find out more…
Watch Jose’s interview or read what he has to say below. Get the info whichever way works best for you.
What kind of work do you do as an apprentice field technician?
Jose: “I maintain and fix drinks systems. Each day is different – sometimes I’ll be in the operations centre here and sometimes I’ll be out in the field reacting to calls. You don’t really need any specific qualifications – I went to sixth form and I did maths and engineering, but they just look for hardworking people. I shadow an engineer who helps me a lot, which is really good because it helps me learn faster than in the classroom. I love meeting new people, and I love that every day is different – you don’t know where you’re going to go or what machine you’re going to work on. In five years’ time I’d like to be a field service manager or even a regional manager.”
What skills do you need?
Jose: “Independence, because you are working on your own on the site. Teamwork, because there’s sometimes more than one of you working on a machine. Hands on skills are always good because you are working on some machines with tools… and you definitely need problem solving skills, because when you turn up to an establishment you won’t know what the fault is and you will have to find it.”
What qualifications do you get from the apprenticeship?
Jose: “You go to college for the first year full-time, and you come out with an NVQ Level 3 BTEC in Engineering and Maintenance.”
Got any top tips for anyone applying for engineering apprenticeships?
Jose: “Read up on engineering and have an interest in the subject, because at the interview you can show you are interested in engineering and that really goes a long way.”
