You may be able to get support with essential costs through your local council. Read below to find out more.
What is the Household Support Fund?
The Household Support Fund was launched in October 2021 by the Department for Work and Pensions. It is distributed by councils in England to help vulnerable households with their expenses e.g. food, clothes, and utilities.
This scheme has recently been extended in the Spring Budget 2024 for an extra six months until September 2024.
Who can get support from the Household Support Fund?
This funding is aimed at anyone who is vulnerable or cannot pay for essentials.
You do not need to be receiving any benefits to get help from your local council. If you get benefits, they won’t be affected if you receive support from the Household Support Fund.
How do I get this support?
Councils across England each decide how to run their schemes. This means you’ll need to check your local government website as there may be differences in:
- eligibility requirements
- how to apply
- who can receive funding
