Vicky comes from a science teaching background and is a Quality of Education Vice Principal. On results day “you feel emotionally in tune with the students,” she says.
Teachers never forget that they’ve been students once too. When you get into teaching careers, you can be that teacher who remembers what results day feels like. You’ll support your students all the way!
Teacher of Science
Vicky has always been mesmerised and in awe of nature and the scientific world since a young age, and always wanted to pursue a career where she could share this inquisitive and curious approach to the world around us. After finishing school Vicky was inspired to pursue her education further. Becoming the first member of her family to attend university, she attended Sheffield Hallam University and graduated with a degree in Science with Education and QTS.
How do you feel in the lead up to GCSE results day?
Definitely a mixture of emotion as you feel a real sense of anticipation and wonderment as the day approaches for the students and young people – and what the future will hold for them.
On the day it’s a complete whirlwind as you feel emotionally in tune with the students as they open their results envelope.
As one of their teachers it’s a special moment seeing firsthand the acknowledgement and recognition that together the hard work was purposeful for them reaching their end goals.
What is the best part of results day for you as a Teacher?
For me it’s that we have played a pivotal part in supporting our students in setting up the foundations for their futures. It’s a day where you feel both humbleness when students thank you, and sadness that this is the closing of a chapter. And that now you have to let them to go to forge their next path.
Personally, I feel a sense of humility in the significant role that I and all teachers play in guiding students up to this point in their lives, and in the knowledge that as a school we have tried to do everything we can, so they are more confident in their own independence to take the next steps.
It’s also a day where I can celebrate the successes of my colleagues whilst remembering that education and learning evolves over time.
