Transforming Lives in Changing Times
The IntoWork Convention is for everyone involved in helping people to find work, keep work and progress in work. The Convention is the largest annual showcase event for ‘what works’ in employment, skills, justice and health.
Our IntoWork Convention is at the cutting edge of policy and research on employment and skills. It brings together practitioners, policy makers, opinion formers and stakeholders to share best practice, debate policy and bring about change and innovation.
This Year’s IntoWork Convention
Now in its sixteenth year, the IntoWork Convention has never been more important. Across employment, skills, health and welfare the last twelve months have seen huge reforms in funding, policy and delivery.
This new government has set out an ambitious agenda for full employment, skills reform, social justice and devolution. But on the ground, reforms to the funding and delivery of employment programmes, health services, apprenticeships and skills have dramatically changed the environment that we all work. So while the next few years will be times of uncertainty at home and abroad, they will also be defined by how we respond to the opportunities and challenges that we face.
So the theme for this year’s Convention is ‘Transforming Lives in Changing Times’. We’ll be addressing head-on how we respond to the changing funding and delivery landscape we face, but also focusing on what we need to do to achieve the step change in employment opportunity, skills, social justice and growth that we want to see.
The Convention delivers four key themes:
1. Work, Health and Disability
How we achieve the objectives of the government’s Green Paper, the role of the Work and Health Programme, transforming how services work together across health, employment and local government, what is working and how we do more.
2. Apprenticeships and skills
Growth in apprenticeships and reforms to technical education should create opportunities for the sector and the people we work with. We’ll explore how to nurture successful partnerships with employers, skills and employment support providers to increase and improve access to high quality training, apprenticeships and traineeships.
3. Devolution
We will bring together Combined Authorities, local and national government and those delivering services to share practice, learn what is working and look ahead to the next round of Deals.
4. Social Justice
With the government’s new strategy due imminently, the Convention will share the latest insights on Universal Credit, local services, Troubled Families and other provision to explore how we can use new funding and approaches to support the most disadvantaged.
