Business in the Community and Greater Manchester Talent Match are co-hosting this Employer Workshop focusing on Future Proof and the Greater Manchester Talent Match programme:
How can both young people and employers benefit from mentoring schemes?
Date: Tuesday 12 December 2017
Time: 13.15 – 16.15 (lunch provided)
Venue: St Thomas Centre, Ardwick Green North, Manchester, M12 6FZ
With companies in the UK facing a multitude of risks like skills shortages and Brexit, it is more important than ever for them to attract and retain young talent. In Business in the Community and City & Guilds Group’s youth survey, of those who said they had a bad experience of starting a job, 1 in 5 mentioned that not having any support through mentoring was a factor.
In Deloitte’s 2016 Millennial survey, they found that young people who had a mentor at work were more than twice as likely to intend to stay in the business for 5 years or more (68% compared to just 32%). This suggests that there is a clear link between mentoring and better retention.
Business in the Community and Greater Manchester Talent Match would like to explore ways that mentoring can not only have a positive effect on young people, both in and outside the business, but can also have a positive impact on businesses themselves.
Open to all HR professionals/Early Careers/Talent Managers based in the Greater Manchester area, workshop delegates will have the opportunity to:
- Hear how organisations such as Stockport Council have implemented mentoring programmes and how it has benefited both young employees and the business.
- Receive top tips on how they can implement these programmes in their own organisations.
- Collaborate with the Greater Manchester Talent Match Youth Panel in a group activity to see how mentoring can help young people with both their professional and personal development.
- Learn more about the opportunities to get involved in Greater Manchester Talent Match and hear some of the success stories of other employers working with the programme from Nisha Frizzell, Engagement Officer from Greater Manchester Talent Match.
