FareShare is a national charity fighting food poverty by tackling food waste. The charity sources surplus food directly from the food industry and redistributes it to their local Community Food Members (CFMs), which includes charities, community groups and food banks. With 32 warehouses across the UK, FareShare delivers nearly 2.5 million meals each week to vulnerable people across the UK.
FareShare’s regional centre in Greater Manchester is run by EMERGE 3Rs. The organisation works towards improving the economic, social and environmental well-being of local people by promoting the ‘3Rs’ of sustainable resource and waste management – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Location: EMERGE, Maynard House, New Smithfield Market, Openshaw, M11 2WJ
Duration: 6 -8 weeks (Depending on hours per week worked)
Warehouse Assistant
Warehouse Assistants are vital to the work of FareShare, ensuring that food delivered to the warehouse is correctly sorted, labelled and organised into orders placed by our CFMs. This role is perfect for anyone who is looking to gain practical work experience in the food industry, warehousing and customer service.
Whilst contributing to an excellent cause you will also be gaining experience in a real working environment, learning about warehouse logistics and developing skills to add to your CV. You will be given a full induction when you start, along with lots of training and support from FareShare staff.
You will be based at FareShare’s regional centre in Greater Manchester and all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needed for this role will be provided.
Drivers Assistant
Driver’s Assistants are vital to the work of FareShare, ensuring that food is safely delivered to their CFMs or collected from our food suppliers. This role is perfect for anyone who is looking to gain practical work experience in the food industry, delivery and customer service.
Whilst contributing to an excellent cause, you will also be gaining experience in a real working environment, learning about the food distribution industry and developing skills to add to your CV. You will be given a full induction when you start, along with lots of training and support from FareShare staff.
You will be based at FareShare’s centre in Greater Manchester and travel with van drivers around Manchester to deliver and collect food. All Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided.
Kitchen Assistant
Kitchen Assistants are vital to the work of FareShare. The Kitchen Assistant role is designed to give people the opportunity to learn cooking skills and how to cook on a budget. You’ll learn how to make a variety of dishes, using up ingredients so nothing goes to waste and will be taught by renowned Chef, Jason Palin.
Jason has years of culinary experience, having worked as a head chef at leading luxury resorts and as a private chef to A-list names. He is a qualified lecturer and is experienced in mentoring trainees. This role is a stepping stone for anyone wanting a start in training for the hospitality industry

You will be based at FareShare’s regional centre in Greater Manchester and all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needed for this role will be provided.
Woodwork Recycling Assistant
EMERGE is a social enterprise passionate about conserving resources, waste reuse and recycling, and developing sustainable communities. EMERGE runs Touch Wood in partnership with the National Community Wood Recycling project.
Touch Wood rescues wood destined for landfill and uses it to create practical and decorative items for both homes and businesses. The aim is to promote the value of wood as a recyclable material. This role is perfect for anyone who has an interest in woodworking, construction, recycling and sustainability.
Whilst contributing to an excellent cause, you will also be gaining experience in a real working environment, learning about carpentry and developing skills to add to your CV. You will be given a full induction when you start, along with lots of training and support from an experienced tutor.
You will be based at the workshop, which is part of EMERGE’s regional centre in Greater Manchester and all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needed for this role will be provided.
