EA’s structured graduate programme lasts between four to five years and you will gain experience in all aspects of flood and coastal risk management. You will rotate through different teams within the Environment Agency and beyond, including opportunities for international collaboration and secondments with their framework suppliers.
This allows you to build skills in:
- asset management
- project feasibility
- planning
- design
- project management
- site supervision
- incident response.

How Will The Programme Boost Your Career Prospects?
The programme will support you with working towards a professional review to become a chartered engineer. This can be with any of the following:
- Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
- Institute of Engineering and Technology(IET)
- Institution of Mechanical Engineers(IMechE)
You will then be in a great position to apply for professionally qualified roles within the Environment Agency.
How To Register Your Interest And Apply
Places on the Environmental Agency’s graduate engineer training programme are advertised on an annual basis via their recruitment system in either spring or autumn.
Register at any time to receive a notification when positions go live on the system. Before applying, applicants must check if their engineering degree is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators JBM. There are several different course checkers available, such as The Engineering Council’s course checker.
