80% of your time will be spent in the workplace, and 20% of your time will be spent off the job, completing a training programme specially designed for your apprenticeship with a recognised training provider. This learning may be delivered via in person workshops, in the workplace or by online delivery.
You will learn from experienced colleagues who will support you to gradually take on the following responsibilities through the duration of your apprenticeship.
What you will be doing
- Carry out manual testing on features of the Historic England corporate website as instructed by the Product Owner and Senior Test Analyst.
- Raise and track any defects and issues.
- Communicate with internal stakeholders and the Product Owner for clarity on requirements.
- Support the Senior Test Analyst in specifying testing scope, approach, and coverage during the discovery and requirements phases.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary agile team, providing feedback and raising issues that need immediate attention.
- Collaborate with the development team to ensure requirements are understood.
- Using our own IT systems for day to day administration, project development, programme management, data communication and archiving tasks
- Using Microsoft Office 360 products including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS-Teams
- Use of Azure DevOps, Umbraco (Content Management Systems) and other tools
- Get opportunities to learn about other aspects of web development (such as design, coding, automated testing and User Experience)
What you will learn
In training you will learn the background knowledge that will help you to understand the bigger picture of work, including:
- How to become a valuable member of an Agile delivery team
- Various methods of software testing e.g. Manual testing, smoke testing, regression testing etc
- Risk analysis and defect management
- How to correctly measure the impact of a defect and its severity and communicate to the wider team
- Effective writing for the creation of test scripts and team communication
- Working safely online
Training & qualifications
Level 2 English and Maths will need to be achieved, if not already, prior to taking the end point assessment.

- Experience of using Microsoft Office
