Thinking about doing a Digital Marketing Apprenticeship? Georgia shares her experience with Youth Employment UK…
How did you come across the apprenticeship?
I started with work experience, then completed a 6 month Kickstart role, and after talking about my next steps with my manager I decided that an apprenticeship was right for me.
Two members of my team, Louis and Hayden, were completing the same Digital Marketing apprenticeship. After looking at the course content, we decided that a Level 3 Digital Marketing apprenticeship would be best for me to build my knowledge and experience.
What new skills have you been learning on the job so far? Have you been given any responsibilities of your own?
As part of my apprenticeship course, I learned about online and offline marketing, coding and Google Analytics. This includes a wide range of topics such as accessibility, responsive web design, marketing platforms and processes, data analytics and website building.
I got lots of opportunities to put this knowledge into practice at work by taking on projects, completing independent training and also completing apprenticeship projects, where I’m free to complete campaigns on my own.
But aside from technical knowledge, I have found that my confidence in myself and also in my work has grown since starting the apprenticeship.
What do you enjoy most about the apprenticeship programme?
I love learning about digital marketing during study days the most. I spend a week away from work in an online classroom where I learn new information and complete activities both on my own and with the other apprentices.
I love being a part of the group and having the opportunity to share my thoughts and ideas to the class has really boosted my confidence, especially at work.
Do you feel optimistic about your future options and prospects? If so, why?
Definitely! Not only will I have a Level 3 qualification in Digital Marketing when I complete my apprenticeship, I will also have lots of experience and knowledge that I can use in my role.
Any top tips for apprentices just starting their programme?
Don’t be afraid to admit you don’t know something or ask a silly question. This applies to when you’re learning with your apprenticeship provider and when you’re at work.
Everybody is learning every day in their role, and for apprentices there is even more to explore. Ask any question that comes to your mind and if you don’t know how to do something, just ask for help.
And don’t worry if you make a mistake either, it’s a natural part of learning and it will help you grow in future.
Any Top Tips For Apprentices completing their EPA soon?
The EPA process can differ from apprenticeship to apprenticeship. I completed exams throughout my apprenticeship, so my EPA was made up of my portfolio of projects and an interview. I had lots of questions and wanted to make sure I knew how to get top marks with my answers. My top tip is to make sure you ask your apprenticeship provider and employer all the questions you have. The more you understand about it, the more confident you’ll feel.
Any top digital marketing tips for new apprentices learning the ropes?
Find your passion and dive in! Digital marketing covers a wide range of activities and I’ve found that I most enjoy content writing. So although I’m building my skills in all areas of digital marketing, I’m building content writing as my area of expertise.
If you find something interesting, dive in and explore it as much as you can. Watch videos, read blogs, and complete courses that will build your knowledge and skills. And have fun with it!
