Are you someone with good communication skills and a passion for creating change? Join a small but ambitious team for an international environmental charity based in London. Apply to become a Communications Assistant and #CreateYourFuture.

Closing Date: 19 August 2022

About the opportunity

Synchronicity Earth is looking for a Communications Assistant to join our small but ambitious Communications team to help tell the stories of our conservation partners and inspire further action to conserve overlooked species and ecosystems through our website, social media, publications, and events.

This involves working with the communications team to help plan, write, design, and edit materials in line with the Communications and Engagement Strategy.

Specific responsibilities will include the following:

Storytelling

  • Learning about our conservation programmes and partners, and turning information about the projects into engaging blogs for Synchronicity Earth’s online audiences.
  • Conducting and writing up interviews with people within Synchronicity Earth’s networks, from inspiring conservationists to collaborators helping spread the message of conservation into different sectors (e.g., finance, food, fashion).
  • Assist the Communications team in creating key communications such as the Spotlight Annual Review, from writing copy to curating images for the designer.
  • Help create content for our social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn) to engage our different audiences.
  • Help source, sort, and edit images for Synchronicity Earth communications.

Fundraising

  • Join the cross-cutting ‘Events team’ at Synchronicity Earth to help plan and carry out Synchronicity Earth (virtual and in-person) events (including helping produce event invitations, presentations, and marketing materials).
  • Assist in editing and designing reports written by our Research Team for Synchronicity Earth donors when necessary.

Digital development

  • Assist the Communications team in developing Synchronicity Earth’s website e.g. writing and editing content, preparing images, setting up website pages on WordPress and help to ensure that all content is kept up to date.
  • Work with the Communications and Engagement Officer to keep Synchronicity Earth’s social media strategy current and effective in engaging our key audiences.

Skills and experience required

  • At least six months experience in a communications role or equivalent communications training/studies.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Ability to edit text to a high standard of British English.
  • Skilled storyteller: be able to find the most interesting aspects of a project or case study and turn it into engaging stories across various platforms.
  • Experience using word processors and presentation tools, i.e. Microsoft Word, Google Docs
  • Experience using one or more of the following social media platforms: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube.

How to apply

Please complete this candidate survey and send a cover letter (one side of A4) outlining any relevant skills and experience you have for this role, why it interests you, and any particular skills you would like to develop in this role, with your CV (no longer than two sides of A4).

Applications should be sent via email and addressed to Nina Seale (hr@synchronicityearth.org). Please put ‘SE – Communications Assistant Aug 2022’ in the subject line.
