Class of Covid Report 2022

Global events since 2020 in particular the pandemic and the cost of living crisis are taking a significant toll on young people.

The Prince’s Trust has launched its Class of Covid 2022 Report, which looks at the impact of the pandemic on young people. You can download the report here.

The Class of Covid report finds that:

  • 49% of young people feel anxious about their future on a daily basis, with 59% agreeing it feels frightening for their generation.
  • 51% of young people agree the expected recession makes them more concerned than ever for their job security. 33% no longer think they will achieve their career goals.
  • 1 in 3 surveyed agree their salary no longer covers their rent or mortgage.
  • 42% of those from lower income backgrounds do not think their job prospects will ever recover from the pandemic, compared to 29% of those from more affluent backgrounds.
  • 41% of those receiving free school meals were significantly more likely than their peers who were not receiving free school meals (30%) to feel like their life was spiraling out of control.

These findings show that the last 2 years have had a significant impact on young people’s confidence and their hopes for the future. This echos the findings of the 2022 Youth Voice Census which revealed that young people are in a mental health emergency and do not feel prepared for their future.
