Skills you need to become a Digital Project Specialist

Being a Digital Project Specialist requires quite a few different skills, a mixture of analytical and practicable skills.

Useful skills to put in your CV:

Creativity: With this role, you could be asked to design adverts, showreels or to edit video content. All of these will require an element of creativity in order to reach a desired outcome. Thinking of fresh ideas will never be seen as a negative, so always pitch your ideas or try something new.

IT skills: Having an understanding of computers, online systems, operating systems and applications will be extremely useful in this role. We use a variety of devices to test apps on and have to fix issues for other users. So, a great knowledge of IT can prove to be an asset.

Media skills: Being able to create an advert in software such as Photoshop, InDesign or Illustrator is essential in this role. And with the course creation, the ability to edit in Premiere Pro, Da Vinci Resolve or Final Cut is needed.
Website experience by using HTML, CSS, JavaScript is valuable. With WordPress knowledge also key.

Time management: You will need to be good at managing your time. With multiple projects often going on at once and deadlines always approaching, you should be able to deliver high quality work within set timeframes.

Problem solving: On most days you will need to figure out a solution to a problem. Whether that be an IT solution, website fix or suggesting a new way of marketing.

Collaboration: Teamwork is important in every team. But when working with a project team, work cannot progress without collaboration. You should be able to produce work from a brief given by senior management and then work with a team to discuss ideas and plans and ultimately piece everything together. This requires collaboration and will be an essential skill for you.

What Qualifications & Training Do You Need For  Digital Project Specialist Careers?

There are three main pathways you could explore if you want to become a Digital Project Specialist: apprenticeships, university, and working your way up.

A media-based degree or IT based degree would be the perfect qualification for an entry level position.

But a degree isn’t the only way you can find your way to the roles. Experience is always most important. So, if you have not studied at university, getting experience from college and apprenticeships would be a great starting point. You can work on the skills suggested (IT, media, problem solving etc) in a junior position at a company until you are comfortable to progress.

What Work Experience Do You Need For Digital Project Specialist Jobs?

A lot of projects extend over multiple platforms. So there could be different ways in which you could gain experience.

Experience working as a graphic or digital designer would be wise for project work where they may need assets created.
