Get Into Teaching Training Opportunities Getting STARTed

A career in teaching isn't just about being in the classroom. In fact, there are lots of different routes you can take, that work for your interests and ambitions.

Get Into Teaching is a free information service from the Department for Education designed to support you throughout your journey to becoming a teacher. You can access this free service for as much or as little support as you need.
Through the Get Into Teaching service you will find advice and guidance on how to get one step closer to the classroom, as well as inspiring stories from others who are training to teach and have just started as a newly qualified teacher.

Why teach?

Teachers don’t just have an influence on the child they teach, but also the adult they become.

There aren’t many jobs where you go home each day knowing you have made a real difference to a child’s life. Teachers are encouraged to think of creative ways to engage their students and you’ll be able to use your experience to help bring your subject to life.

Where can you teach?

As a teacher you can teach in the following settings:

  • early years (children up to the age of 5)
  • primary (ages 5 to 11)
  • secondary (ages 11 to 18)
  • further education (for example, teaching at further education colleges or sixth form colleges)
