A image of Blossom, a worker at Buckinghamshire Council sat at her desk on a blue computer chair.

Hi, I’m Blossom, the Recruitment and Training Lead in the Customer Service Centre at Buckinghamshire Council. My role involves recruiting and training Customer Service Advisors, producing reports, and assisting with staffing when needed.
After finishing my GCSEs, I knew I didn’t want to go to sixth form or college. A family member suggested I check the council’s apprenticeship opportunities, and that’s how I began my journey.
My apprenticeship was transformative. Initially anxious, I grew more confident with the council’s support, trying new things to meet apprenticeship goals. I’ve embraced learning opportunities and successfully managed an apprentice, which was rewarding and insightful.
My advice to young people is to step out of your comfort zone and explore available opportunities. There are many departments at Buckinghamshire Council, and shadowing different roles can help you find what excites you. Engage with staff networks and keep trying new things to discover your strengths.

Khawar from Buckinghamshire county council

Hi, I’m Khawar, but most people call me Harvey. I’m 25 and have worked for local authorities since I was 16. Currently, I’m the Planning Principal Technical Services Officer at the Council, providing specialist support for planning applications. I started in the library service at 16 and loved working with books and learning about public service.
As a Degree Apprentice, I’m studying for a master’s in Spatial Planning at University College London, funded through the Apprenticeship Levy. The council has always supported my career aspirations and encourages me to be my best.
I plan to pursue an MBA part-time to prepare for my future in local government, with the council's continued support. Buckinghamshire Council is a great place to start a career in public service, offering diverse roles and learning opportunities.
I see the council as a lifelong career path where I aim to become a senior manager. It’s a flexible, fun, and fantastic place to work, with supportive managers, varied work, and amazing colleagues.
