Job description
Carry out a Hanson learning program in Asphalt production and site operation, while studying for a level 2 mineral processing mobile and static plant operator apprenticeship.
The asphalt plant apprentice’s main duties include learning the full extent of the production of quality asphalt.
Starting with the basic operation of the whole site progressing to concrete production by means of the concrete batching processes and machinery.
Job role
- To effectively learn to operate the plant loading shovel to the standards required by company to be accredited to the MQPC level 2 NVQ
- To ensure that the plant is adequately stocked with approved materials at all times, including additives and fuel
- To learn visual check stocktaking on a minimum weekly basis and verify monthly
- To learn to carry out routine maintenance and inspection for defects and record actions accordingly
- To learn to report any defect, action or occurrence which may jeopardize the operation in any respect of health & safety, the environment, or product quality or customer service
- To be familiar with and ensure full compliance with the policies issued on health & safety, the environment
- Quality control, to spend time with the area technical personnel to gain a technical insight to concrete production, including visits to customer construction sites
- To ensure that the site, plant, and associated buildings are kept in a clean, tidy and safe condition at all times
- To seek advice from the Plant Supervisor on matters outside the scope of the concrete plant apprentice authority
- To carry out additional duties requested by your mentor or the site/plant supervisor, that may from time to time be necessary
- To learn and manage the operation of the plant in winter conditions, this entails: Draining ground material receive hopper, draining down all water pipes and switch off flows, lift any pumps out of pits and drain down
