About the opportunity

ECC Adult Social Care, through effective practice, is moving towards a transformational shift from a focus on long-term care support, to a model with four key principles: – prevention; early intervention; enablement and safeguarding. This will enable people, their families and carers to be able to access information and tools to live healthily and independently. Providing an opportunity to respond pro-actively to growing service demand in a sustainable way, within the financial constraints of the Council.

This Apprentice opportunity involves undertaking an intermediate Apprenticeship framework in Health and Social Care, whilst working within in a residential and short break home for adults with a learning disability and Autism, learning and developing the skills needed in order to provide a high-quality level of care. The Apprentice will be supporting adults with a learning disability and Autism with all aspects of their lives in accordance with their wishes and identified needs, both in the home and in the community.

What will you be doing?

  • Contribute to upholding the Duty of Care for all clients to ensure a safe and high-quality service.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with all external and internal regulations.
  • Undertake all mandatory training to ensure personal, customer and colleague safety at all times.
  • The successful individual will work alongside the home’s residents and staff, using a range of communication methods and supporting them in accordance with their wishes and identified personal needs in all aspects of their lives.
  • Complete a course of study and achieve the relevant Apprenticeship framework.
  • Deliver a quality service to individuals, ensuring consistent adherence to both designed outcomes and agreed service levels.
  • Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.

About You

You will:

  • Be educated to RQF level 1 (GCSE) or equivalent by experience with a willingness to achieve the apprenticeship award within 12 months of starting the role.
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a manner which is easily understood and tailored to meet the needs of the audience.
  • Have a commitment to learn with the ability to learn key components of care: the principles of respect, dignity, privacy and promoting choice.
  • Have the ability to learn and understand the safeguarding of vulnerable adults and how to apply this.
  • Understand how to manage sensitive and/or personal information.
  • Be open to new work practices and responsive to change.

Essential Requirements for the role:

  • Due to the occupational requirements for this position, we can only consider applications from individuals aged 18 or over.
  • Functional Skills Level 1 in Maths and English (or equivalent), which is a Grade D/E or 2/3 to begin the apprenticeship.
  • Ability to reach a Level 2 Functional Skills in both Maths & English by the End Point Assessment (EPA), if you do not already have this.
