About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the University of Oxford as an Apprentice Outreach Programmes Manager in the world-leading Chemistry department. This Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship will earn you a BA (Hons) Degree in Business and Management Practice, certified by Oxford Brookes University.
The degree will focus on the theory behind a range of business functions, such as project management, marketing, internal and external customer communications, accounting and digital information. Upon completion of the end stage assessment, you will be awarded CMI status as part of the apprenticeship programme.
You will report to the Educational Outreach Officer and, working closely with the Chemistry Teaching Laboratory (CTL) team, as well as HR, Finance, Conferences, Communications and IT professionals within the Department, will learn to take responsibility for all aspects of the management of the Department’s outreach programmes.
The Department of Chemistry is one of the largest and most successful chemistry departments in the world, with almost 90 research groups comprising around 900 active researchers, including 400 graduate students and an undergraduate body of 700 students. Our educational outreach programmes aim to inspire young people to aspire to study the chemical sciences beyond school and to support them to attain this goal. You will be a critical part of the team, learning to take responsibility for the management of a wide variety of activities and events that make up our programmes.
These include a busy in-person workshop programme running in the CTL, in Colleges, and in community and school venues, as well as our online workshops via Microsoft Teams. Additionally, there are career and research talks, lecture-demonstrations, summer residentials, offer-holder support programmes, work experience opportunities, internships, events with our divisional colleagues, online and in-person conferences for students, teachers and technicians, competitions, and a multi-institution project promoting women in chemistry.
It is a vibrant, busy and varied set of programmes and your professional and organised approach will ensure all run according to plan, resulting in a first-class experience for those with whom we engage.
About the apprenticeship
As part of this role, you will undertake a Level 6 Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship with Abingdon and Witney College, certified by Oxford Brookes University. For this apprenticeship, you will work in the Chemistry Teaching Laboratory, Mansfield Road, Oxford.
As part of your apprenticeship, you will be required to attend the Abingdon campus of Abingdon and Witney College approximately 1 day a week (during term-time) for 3 years. In total, it will take 42 months to complete all elements of the apprenticeship, with support from the Department, University, and College throughout.

About you
You will be passionate about starting your career in Management and excited about the opportunity of becoming an apprentice at the University of Oxford. You may be starting your career or you may be looking for a career change.
To complete the Level 6 Apprenticeship you will need to evidence 3 A level passes, or a Full Level 3 qualification. If you did not achieve these grades, do not let that put you off from applying as you may have extensive or relevant experience giving you the equivalent qualifications needed. To help check that you have the potential to achieve the selection criteria, Abingdon and Whitney College will ask you to complete a short initial assessment during the application process.
