We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the University of Oxford as an Apprentice Medical Simulation Technician in the Oxford Simulation, Teaching and Research Department (OxSTaR) the University’s purpose-built medical simulation teaching and research facility.
You would be working alongside knowledgeable and experienced technicians and educators who offer courses to medical students, hospital teams and paramedics that utilise technology to provide an enhanced learning platform. Through this medium we have invaluable opportunity to observe, develop and understand how healthcare professionals work together and interact with their environment and equipment.
This is the first apprenticeship we have had in this area and is a unique opportunity, it is expected that with training you will gain experience recreating the clinical areas to ensure an immersive and realistic simulation, this would include deploying part task trainers, undertaking the scenario coding (programming) and subsequent operation of human patient simulators. Most of this will take place in the simulation centre but we do go into clinical areas and provide insitu training.
About the apprenticeship
As part of this role, you will undertake an Apprenticeship with Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where you will complete a Simulation Technician Level 3 Education Technician programme, further details can be found here. For this apprenticeship, you will work at the OxSTaR department in John Radcliffe Hospital site in Oxford. As part of your apprenticeship, you will be required to attend distance /remote learning for 20% of your time, typically this will be 1 day/week.
In total, it will take 2.5 years to complete all elements of the apprenticeship, with support from the Department, University, and College throughout.

About you
You will be passionate about starting your career in medical education and excited about the opportunity of becoming an apprentice at the University of Oxford. You may be starting your career or you may be looking for a career change.
You will come with good interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively and diplomatically with a range of people at all levels and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of colleagues, treating all colleagues with dignity and respect. To complete the level 3 apprenticeship, you will need to evidence passes at 9-4 or A*-C in GCSE Maths and English. If you did not achieve these grades, do not let that put you off from applying as you can study Functional Skills as part of the apprenticeship giving you the equivalent qualifications needed. To help check that you have the potential to achieve these, the training provider will ask you to complete a short initial assessment during the application process, there are also government residency requirements for Apprenticeship funding which the Training Provider will be able to advise on.
