About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the University of Oxford as an Apprentice Laboratory Support Technical in the Nuffield Department of Medicine, Oxford Centre for Immuno Oncology (OXCIO).

As an Apprentice in the world leading Nuffield Department of Medicine, you will report to the Laboratory Manager, contributing to the daily organisational tasks in running our ‘state of the art’ research laboratories and scientific buildings. You will be trained in a range of technical activities by working alongside administrative staff, technical staff, researchers, and postgraduate students.

Your work will range from general laboratory housekeeping, to understanding the management of scientific equipment, Health & Safety within a scientific workplace, purchasing equipment/supplies and helping with scientific tasks within the laboratory.

In addition to this you will have access to a number of relevant in-house training courses run by the University training provider Oxford Learning Institute, Health & Safety Office, and Oxford University Computing Services for IT skills.

About the apprenticeship

As part of this role, you will undertake an Apprenticeship with CSR Scientific Training, where you will complete a Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship. You will start your technical elements of your apprenticeship in January 2023, and be joining the wider January 2023 cohort at the University of Oxford.

For this apprenticeship, you will work at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine, Oxford Centre for Immuno Oncology (OXCIO) at our Old Road Campus in Headington, Oxford. As part of your apprenticeship, you will be required to attend in-house training and online distance learning delivered by CRS Scientific Training.

During your apprenticeship, you will need to attend Old Road Campus Research Building, Headington 4 days a week, with 1 day remote learning with CSR.

In total, it will take 2 years to complete all elements of the apprenticeship, with support from the Department, University, and College throughout.

About you

You will be passionate about starting your career in Medical Sciences and excited about the opportunity of becoming an apprentice at the University of Oxford. You may be starting your career or you may be looking for a career change.

To complete the level 3 apprenticeship you will need to evidence passes at 9-4 or A*-C in GCSE Maths and English. If you did not achieve these grades, do not let that put you off from applying as you can study Functional Skills as part of the apprenticeship giving you the equivalent qualifications needed. To help check that you have the potential to achieve these, CSR Scientific Training will ask you to complete a short initial assessment during the application process. There are also government residency requirements for Apprenticeship funding which the Training Provider will be able to advise on.
