Apprentice Laboratory Engineering Technician with the University of Oxford – #CreateYourFuture

Are you interested in a career supporting world-leading research? Apply for this opportunity from the University of Oxford!

We have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Laboratory Technician to join us in The Centre for Applied Superconductivity (CfAS) in the Materials department.

This a varied role, where you will learn to operate, maintain and repair vacuum equipment, electrical testing equipment, furnaces and other experimental facilities, and at a later point of your apprenticeship you will also learn how to perform alignment, calibration and technical troubleshooting. Technical support is valued very highly in the department because it is key to facilitating the internationally leading research being carried out, ensuring that the equipment and laboratories run efficiently and safely.

The CfAS laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for carrying out research and development activities.

These include vacuum systems for making complex materials in the form of thin coatings, other materials fabrication facilities, and equipment for characterising the physical properties of materials, as well as specialist facilities for testing the electrical properties of superconducting materials at low temperature (below -250oC).

The varied and evolving nature of the research carried out in our laboratories requires us to regularly adapt and design new bespoke components for our kit.
