All this week we’ve been exploring apprenticeships! Lilley shared her story of starting Uni and it not being for her and we hear more from two of our ambassadors who are also on their apprenticeship journey.
Hannah Harvey, Youth Ambassador:
I chose to be a teaching and learning assistant apprentice as I want to work as a teaching assistant and knew learning how to be one whilst working alongside experienced teaching assistants was better for me then just being in a classroom doing theory. It also offered lots of real world experience and the chance to show that I can do it.
I decided to do Level 2 as I’ve never worked in a school before and wanted to see what I could do without getting out of my depth. I knew that this level was perfect to start building my confidence and develop my skills.
This course is very good at putting my personality, skills and knowledge to good use and I feel very valued and that I belong here. I can use my love of English in some lessons to support students and I get to support in a wide variety of lessons. I’m very enthusiastic and so I get to put my energy to good use!
When my apprenticeship comes to an end I hope to be a qualified teaching assistant.
George Greaves, Youth Ambassador:
Watch the video below to hear George talk about his journey from traineeship to management via an apprenticeship. After leaving school with a no GCSE’s George has been able to follow his dreams of working in the city, his hard work and having the opportunity to complete an apprenticeship has worked for him.
