Take your mind off it
Sometimes, a useful way to deal with tough emotions is to do or think about something else for a bit.
Taking your mind off something that's worrying you is not the same as pretending an issue doesn't exist.
Sometimes, when faced with tough emotions, it's okay to just take your mind off it until you have more time, space and energy to deal with the situation.
There are all kinds of healthy and positive ways to put your issues to one side until you feel more ready:
- Enjoy music/reading/TV/film (especially if it's funny or positive)
- Try a walk or a bit of exercise
- Plan something you'll enjoy doing in your near future
Choose an activity that will occupy your mind and allow you to focus on something else for a while.
When the emotion does resurface, you might find that it’s lessened in strength. Allowing yourself some space could also help you feel more able to think clearly what to do about whatever might be worrying you.
