Lord Davies of Abersoch – Host (Chair, Corsair Capital and LTSB Patron)
Lord Davies is a Partner and the Chairman of Corsair Capital, a private equity firm specialising in financial services. He is also the Chairman of LetterOne, the Chairman of the Lawn Tennis Association, the Chairman of Intermediate Capital Group, an Adviser to Teneo, and the Chairman of UK India Business Council. He was Minister for Trade, Investment, Small Business and Infrastructure from January 2009 until May 2010. Prior to that, Lord Davies was Chairman and previously CEO, and served on the Board of Standard Chartered for over 12 years. He was awarded a CBE for his services to the financial sector and the community in Hong Kong in June 2002 where he served as a member of the HK Exchange fund for seven years. Lord Davies is a JP in Hong Kong, and he is an Honorary Distinguished Professor at Cardiff Business School.
Andy Ellis (Head, NatWest Ventures)
Andy is responsible for building and scaling a portfolio of standalone digital businesses and product to generate new revenue streams across NatWest. These ventures use technology to create and launch innovative business models into the market and so far include a digital banking proposition for consumers (Bo) and SMEs (Mettle), a direct lender (Esme) and a merchant acquiring business (Tyl) plus a number of other banking and adjacent businesses. He is also on the Board of FreeAgent (cloud accounting software).
Prior to this role, Andy spent a number of years leading business strategy teams across banking, following an early career in technology and consulting with Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting). As someone who believes in taking tangible action when it comes to improving diversity in banking, Andy launched the RBS Comeback programme for female returners in 2015 and recently launched a ground-breaking digital apprenticeship programme for young people from underrepresented areas.
Cheryl Stokes (Partner, Heidrick & Struggles)
Cherl Stokes is a partner in Heidrick & Struggles New York office and a member of Heidrick Consulting. For more than 20 years, she has helped leaders effectively address challenges in the global business environment, leading businesses to develop the leadership system and the organizational capabilities needed to execute their strategies. She has designed and delivered numerous senior level programs, facilitating face-to-face and virtually in the areas of leadership, strategy, productive dialogue, story-telling, systemic thinking and other organizational learning disciplines.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (Footballer and Manager)
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was born in Suriname and moved with his family at the age of five to Holland. He was raised in a working class community near Amsterdam where support for young people was almost non-existent and for many football was one of the only outlets for their talent. Jimmy concedes that he made some bad decisions when a teenager, which resulted in a spell in youth detention at 16. On his release, Jimmy dedicated himself to his passion – football – and it wasn’t long before his talent was spotted and he was given a shot at the professional game. He has never looked back. His career took him to clubs and countries including Portugal, Spain and most famously England with first Leeds United and then Chelsea FC, picking up two Premier League Golden Boots and representing Holland in the 1998 World Cup Finals. At the end of his playing career, Jimmy entered the world of football management, with stints at Royal Antwerp and Burton Albion and QPR in the EFL.
Jimmy has never forgotten the challenges he faced, which are unfortunately ‘normal’ for many young people from similar backgrounds. In 2012, Jimmy became a financial backer and board memeber of a new digital plaform called Slenky. He has used his profile to engage contacts and businesses in the world of sport and other sectors, introducing them to digital engagement of young people. Slenky has continued to grow and Jimmy continues to share his story to help businesses get involved in the digital revolution – and to positively impact young peoples’ futures. Slenky 3.0 goes live in 2020 and Leadership Through Sport & Business will be participating with our Shots for young people .
David Pinchin (Founder and Chair, LTSB)
David Pinchin, a Welsh-born American citizen, was one of the founders of the OTC Currency Options market in the early 1980s and he co-founded and ran Tradition Financial Services in 1985, which became one of the leading international Inter Dealer brokers. He was CEO or Co-CEO of TFS for 25 years and COO of Tradition Group from 2007 to 2009. Both companies were publicly quoted. David is currently the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Leadership Through Sport & Business, a social mobility charity which he founded in 2012. Through intensive training and partnerships with blue-chip companies and elite football foundations, LTSB’s life-changing programme develops young people personally and professionally, and better prepares them for the business world. His ambition is to create momentum for this charity and to galvanise support from government and business to really move the needle in society in terms of social mobility, diversity and gender equality.
Desire Agyemang (Digital Apprentice, NatWest)
Desire joined NatWest Ventures after participating in the LTSB/NatWest Innovation Bootcamp in September 2019. She was one of 10 successful candidates to gain a place on a 4-year Digital & Technology Solutions degree apprenticeship, and is currently working in the “Mettle” Venture. Alongside her passion for tech, Desire is also dedicated to environmental and gender equality issues. She has spoken at LTSB’s Women in Leadership conference, and was recently competitively selected from students across the UK, on the basis of her poignant and thought provoking video, to participate in a young people’s forum debating how the UK Ministry of Defence should tackle the security challenges of climate change.
Paul Evans (Co-CEO, LTSB)
Paul is Chief Executive at Leadership Through Sport & Business, with a professional background in Youth & Education services, Sport for Development, Mental Health and Homelessness. He cites the golden thread throughout his career as social mobility and inclusion, supporting the most disadvantaged groups to achieve real and lasting change in their lives. He was Managing Director at the award winning Street League and CEO of the national education charity UFA. Paul holds a First Class Honours Degree in Business and Management, a Diploma in Psychotherapy and qualified to Level 4 as a Teacher of Further Education. In 2009 he was invited to become a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) is a member of the Chartered Management Institute (MCMI) and a trustee of Nottinghamshire based learning disability charity, REACH.
