Are you looking for your next job opportunity that doesn’t require years of experience? With our Opportunity Finder, you can find entry-level roles, apprenticeships and more with employers who are committed to offering the support you need to advance in your career.
Here’s a quick guide to help you make the most of the Opportunity Finder and its features so you can feel more confident in your job search.
How to Search for Jobs and Apprenticeships
It can be challenging to find a job near you within an industry you’re interested in. To narrow your search you can use filters to pinpoint specific industries, job types and locations. Let’s say you’re looking for a level 3 engineering apprenticeship, using filters helps to simplify your search by only showing opportunities that fit that description.
Even if there isn’t an opportunity for you, this will save you time as you won’t have to scroll through every opportunity to find this out. You can even filter by employer, so you can see all of the vacancies that they are currently recruiting for. If you’ve seen a youth-friendly employer that you think would be a great fit for you, use this filter to discover their opportunities.
What Information You Will Find
When you click on an opportunity it should have all the information you need to help you decide if this is the right opportunity for you. At the top of the page, you will see details on the role including the industry, how much you will be paid (salary), the number of hours you’re expected to work each week and the requirements for applying for this role.
Some vacancies have an ‘ongoing’ closing and start date, meaning that there is no fixed date for when you need to apply or when you start the job. However, a lot of opportunities will have deadlines for applications and potential dates for when they would like successful candidates to start working. Check the dates in the top right of the opportunity, so you’re aware of when you need to apply and when you can start.
Underneath the key dates is a link to where you can apply, but before you send your application, scroll down to read the job description. This helps you understand what you’ll be doing and whether the employer and the role can support you with your career aspirations. Next to this is a map view of where this opportunity is located to help you determine how you will get there and if it’s plausible for you to travel there each working day.
How to Search for Events
The filters you can use to search for events are slightly different, though you will still be able to narrow your search based on location to make sure that the options you see are accessible to you. You can choose between online events like webinars or in-person events like careers fairs, so you can further personalise your search based on the type of event you want to attend.
How to Search for Opportunities Near You
To help tailor your search to opportunities near you, you can switch to a map view at the click of a button. With this feature, you can see where each opportunity is on a map of the UK. When viewing the map, all you need to do is click on one of the orange or dark blue pins to learn more about that opportunity.
