Unlocking Our Sound Heritage

Arianna – Intellectual Property Rights Workflow Officer

Why did you want to work at the Library?

I’ve been a workflow officer for almost six months, and am really enjoying the fast-paced nature of this role. After graduating with a masters in linguistics, I wanted to start a career in something practical that would allow me to use my analytical skills and work towards more defined
goals. I arrived at the Library through an apprenticeship in the Endangered Archives Programme, and subsequently found my current position in the Sound and Vision department.

Tell us about your job

Working in the final steps of a large digitisation project, I check copyright clearance and data protection documentation of digitised recordings. We get to be the ones to ultimately open the recordings to our onsite and online audiences, allowing researchers and visitors to enjoy collections that were previously unavailable. There’s a lot of problem-solving involved in my role. We continuously brainstorm better, more efficient ways to get collections online. We identify our weakest processes, propose solutions and implement changes to the workflow, to speed up our operations and add to our online collection.
