Laura – Research Services Apprentice
Why did you want to work at the Library?
I came into my role after completing a degree in Creative and Professional Writing, knowing I wanted to work in an environment with books. Research Services is quite a small team, focused on finding out how our services are used, and what people’s opinions of the Library are. In my time here, I’ve interviewed many people, asking about their experiences and how we might improve our products and services in the future. I’ve also researched and edited for two staff newsletters, created a user guide for a staff website, and helped to run a series of online video interviews with another organisation.
Tell us about your job
Balancing apprenticeship coursework with my job role has been a rewarding challenge. It’s important to organise and plan my time, making sure to prioritise important deadlines. I like to dedicate one day per week to studying. The job provides a lot of information and knowledge that feeds back into the qualification coursework. I’ve managed to fill multiple notebooks with everything I’ve learned, and every experience has helped me write my final report at the end of the apprenticeship.
